Coaches: nutrition plans, recipes and ingredients

Nutrition is included on every coach plan.

The Nutrition page

Nutrition in the sidebar has three tabs:

Tab Contains
Plans Reusable nutrition plans
Recipes Meals built from ingredients
Ingredients Individual foods with their macros

The Straton Kitchen button opens Straton’s ready-made ingredients and recipes. Search, filter by kind (Recipes, Ingredients, Grocery, Restaurants) or by macros, and add items to your library.

Plan types

Type What the client gets
Meal plan Meals with specific foods and portions. Each meal can offer alternative options
Macro plan, by meal A macro target for each meal, without specific foods
Macro plan, total only Daily calories, protein, carbs and fat, with no meals

Creating a plan

  1. On Plans, click New plan.
  2. Enter a name and choose the plan type. For a macro plan, choose By meal or Total only.
  3. Click Create plan.

Then, depending on the type:

  • Meal plan. Click Add meal (for example Breakfast, Lunch, Pre-workout). Inside a meal, use Add food to pick from My Library or Straton Kitchen, and Add option to give the client an alternative.
  • Macro plan by meal. Add meals and set protein, carbs, fat and calories for each, plus an optional coaching note.
  • Total only. Set the daily protein, carbs, fat and calories.

The plan menu has Rename plan and Archive plan. Archiving removes a plan from your active library.

Ingredients

Click New ingredient on the Ingredients tab.

  • Name (required), brand and description (optional).
  • Serving unit and amount. Units include grams, millilitres, ounces, cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, serving, piece, slice, scoop and common package sizes.
  • Protein, carbs, fat and calories per serving.

Recipes

Click New recipe on the Recipes tab.

  • Image (JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF, up to 10 MB), name, categories and a short description.
  • Suggest proposes categories for you.
  • Ingredients: add from your library or the Straton Kitchen. Each ingredient can have a cooking method and a note.
  • Macros: Auto from ingredients calculates them for you, adjusted for the cooking method. Manual lets you type them.
  • Instructions: preparation and serving notes for the client.

Categories: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack, Pre-workout, Post-workout, Supplement, Drink, Other.

Deleting a recipe or ingredient archives it. Meals the client already logged keep their details.

Giving a client a plan

  1. Open the client and go to the Nutrition tab.
  2. Open Client plans.
  3. Either:
    • Assign from library to copy one of your plans or a Straton plan, or
    • New plan to build one just for this client.
  4. Open the plan and click Set active.

Important:

  • A plan is not active until you click Set active. The client only follows the active plan.
  • A client has one active plan at a time. Setting a plan active deactivates the previous one.
  • The client’s plan is their own copy. If you later change the library plan, open the client’s plan and use Sync changes.
  • Deleting a client’s plan is permanent.
  • The client is not sent a notification when a nutrition plan is assigned or activated. Let them know in Messages.

Following a client’s nutrition

The client’s Nutrition tab has:

  • Nutrition insights: today’s intake, calorie adherence, macro adherence, macro mix, meal timing, most-logged items and recent logs. Choose 30 days, 90 days or all time.
  • Client plans: the plans assigned to this client.
  • Client foods: custom foods and recipes the client created in the app.

You can also log a meal on a client’s behalf from the plan page.

Roles

Owners, admins, lead coaches and coaches can create and edit ingredients, recipes and plans. Staff can view them.

Common questions

My client can’t see their nutrition plan. Open the client’s plan and check that it is set active.

My client sees “No plan yet” in the app. No plan is active for them. Assign one and click Set active.

Can I set macros without writing meals? Yes. Use a macro plan with Total only.

Can clients log foods that aren’t in my plan? Yes. Clients can search the food library, create custom foods and build recipes in the app. What they create appears under Client foods.

Does Straton give nutrition advice to my clients? No. For coached clients, the coach sets the plan and targets. Coaches are responsible for working within their own scope of practice. See Health and safety.
