Connecting Apple Health is optional. It powers the **Recovery** section on Home.

## Connecting

- You are offered the connection during setup: tap **Connect Apple Health**, then
choose what to share in Apple's own sheet.
- If you skipped it, tap **Connect Health** on one of the Recovery cards on Home.

Sharing your health data also requires the "Health and body data" consent in
**Profile > Privacy and data**.

## What Straton reads

| Data | Used for |
| --- | --- |
| Sleep | Sleep card and recovery score |
| Resting heart rate and heart rate variability | Heart Rate card and recovery score. Needs an Apple Watch or similar |
| Steps and active energy | Steps card and strain |
| Workouts recorded by other apps | Strain |

Straton reads the last 14 days and refreshes at most once an hour, when you open
the app.

Things to know:

- Weight, height and body fat in Apple Health are **not** used. Your weight in
  Straton comes from your check-ins.
- Workouts you finish in Straton are **not** currently written to Apple Health,
and they do not close your Activity rings.
- For coach clients, your coach can see the health summaries you share (sleep,
heart rate, steps, energy and outside workouts) if their plan includes
  advanced analytics.

## The Recovery cards

| Card | Shows | Labels |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Recovery | A score out of 100 | Recovered (67 and above), Moderate (34 to 66), Take it easier (below 34) |
| Sleep | Last night's sleep. "In Bed" if only time in bed is known | Shorter than usual, About usual, Longer than usual |
| Heart Rate | Resting heart rate. Shows Steps instead if there is no heart data | Above your usual, Resting as usual, Below your usual |
| Strain | Training load for the week | Rest day, Lighter week, Usual week, Building fast |

How to read them:

- Everything is compared with **your own** previous 28 days, not with other
  people.
- Nothing is judged until there are at least 7 days of data. Until then the
Recovery card shows "Learning you" with a count.
- Without a watch, recovery is based on sleep and strain. With heart data it is
  more precise.
- The cards are information only. They are not medical advice.

For individuals, sleep from Apple Health is one small input into the weekly
review. It never changes a plan on its own.

## Troubleshooting

| What you see | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| A dash on the cards | Nothing has loaded yet. Pull down on Home to refresh |
| Connect Health | No permission, or no data yet. Tap it to connect |
| Nothing yet today | There is no data for today yet. Sleep usually appears after you wake and your watch or phone syncs |
| Add heart data | Sleep or steps exist but there is no heart data. Resting heart rate needs a watch |
| Open Health | Access was refused earlier. Turn it back on in the Health app |
| Learning you | Fewer than 7 days of data. Keep wearing your device |

### Turning access back on

Health permissions are managed in the Health app, not in iPhone Settings:

1. Open the **Health** app.
2. Go to **Sharing**, then **Apps**.
3. Tap **Straton**.
4. Turn on the categories you want to share.

iOS never tells an app whether you refused read access, so a refusal looks the
same as "no data". If the cards stay empty, check these switches first.

### Disconnecting

Turn off all categories for Straton in the Health app using the steps above. To
stop Straton processing health and body data entirely, withdraw the consent in
**Profile > Privacy and data**.

## Common questions

**My Straton workouts don't appear in Apple Health or my rings.**
Straton does not write workouts to Apple Health at the moment.

**My sleep is wrong.**
Straton shows what Apple Health has. Check the Sleep data in the Health app and
the device that records it.

**Do I need an Apple Watch?**
No. Sleep from your iPhone and steps work without one. Heart rate and heart rate
variability need a watch or a compatible device.

**Does Straton use my Apple Health weight to adjust my calories?**
No. It uses the weight from your check-ins.
